Chuck Norris can hover over an element and inspect it with Webkit Inspector at the same time. For us mere mortals, Webkit Inspector has a few tickboxes to toggle an element’s state.

Expand the Styles section and press the little arrow icon on the right. It opens a panel with the following states:

:active
:focus
:hover
:visited
